Better known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is also a safe means of reducing anxiety. In order to administer nitrous oxcide, a small inhaler is placed over the nose, through which it is administered prior to treatment. You will typically experience an overall feeling of well-being, tingling and possible numbness with no lasting side effects after treatment. When compared to IV or Oral sedation, this produces a minimal amount of relaxation and is not always predictable from one person to another.
Oral sedation involves taking a small sedative pill prior to your dental appointment. It is typically an effective means of reducing anxiety. However, the level of relaxation varies from one person to another. You will need a driver to escort you to and from the office. After you treatment is completed, you should not return to work for teh remainer of the day.
